Dina Shenhav | CITY

As if in a Lego game, with the pieces made of coal, Dina Shenhav recreates in her work “Town” the ruins of an ancient settlement. The small scale enables the viewer to observe the town from above, to encompass at a glance the entirety. Like watching an enlarged doll’s house or a close examination of the holes and cavities of ants’ nest. This town is a lifeless place where everything is made out of coal. It is black and dismantled, exposing last remnants disintegrating into black dust, faded traces of life, which time and nature shatter and destroy slowly but thoroughly.
