Tears 2024

Dina Shenhav | TEARS

12 works each one, 45X45 cm

A series of works made from tiny beads glued onto plywood. Each piece is a portrait of an invented character, all of whom are crying. The works were created over the past year, a difficult year for those living in Israel. Each piece measures 40 x 40 cm.

The beads, taken from a world of beauty and childhood, allow me a sense of distance from the subject and make it possible for me to work despite the hardship. For me, they hold a kind of magic—the act of building an image from tiny points—while at the same time, the image feels fragile, as if a light breath or a small impact could scatter it and make it disappear completely.
